How to Learn the Nine Times 9x Table The Easy Way

The easy way to learn the 9x table is to link it to the 10x table.

Ask your child if they notice a pattern in the table above. What's the difference between 9x and 10x? Now ask how they could work out 9x in their head (for the example highlighted above): (9x6) = (10x6) - (1x6) = 60 - 6 = 54.

You can also point out that in the 9x table, both numbers always add up to 9*.
18 > 1+8=9
27 > 2+7=9
36 > 3+6=9
45 > 4+5=9  etc.
*as far as 9x10.
So if they want to find 9 x 6, they know the answer isn't 60, so it's fifty something: 5-, and because the two digits must add up to 9, they know it must be 54 because 5+4=9.

Another interesting fact is that
1/9 = 0.111 recurring
2/9 = 0.222 recurring
3/9 = 0.333 recurring
4/9 = 0.444 recurring
5/9 = 0.555 recurring
6/9 = 0.666 recurring
7/9 = 0.777 recurring
8/9 = 0.888 recurring
9/9 = 1  (not 0.999 !)
